He does, however, face a formidable opponent in Martinez, who won silver at the Rio Olympics five years ago.
Panghal, who broke into the limelight in 2017, will compete in his debut Olympics, despite the high expectations.
The 25-year-old took silver in the Commonwealth Games in 2018 before winning gold in the Asian Games.
He also earned a gold medal at the Boxing World Cup 2020, and he'll be hoping to keep his winning ways going into the Olympics.
His Colombian opponent is a World and Pan American Games medalist who will put the top-seeded Indian to the test.
Panghal received a bye in the first round and just needs two wins to secure a podium berth, making him India's best hope for a medal.
