Last year, MS Dhoni, the World Cup-winning captain, announced his retirement from international cricket on this day.
The wicketkeeper-batsman posted a video to Instagram with the remark, "Thanks a lot for ur love and support throughout." Consider myself Retired as of 1929 hrs.”
In the background of the video, the popular song "Mai Pal Do Pal Ka Shayar Hu" from Amitabh Bachchan's "Kabhie Kabhie" was playing.
Dhoni talked about his fantastic experience with the Indian team, including his appearance in the 2019 World Cup semifinal against New Zealand.
Dhoni has 350 ODI appearances under his belt, with a best score of 183 against Sri Lanka. He is also the only skipper to have won all of the major ICC awards (50-over World Cup, T20 World Cup, and Champions Trophy).
Dhoni, often known as "Captain Cool," is noted for his cool demeanour and superb captaincy on the field. He has established himself as one of the best wicket-keepers in the world throughout the years.
The Ranchi-based wicket-athleticism keepers behind the wickets has provided India with numerous breakthroughs, as he has completed successful stumpings in record time.
He's also known for his penchant for reviews, prompting some to joke that the 'Decision-Review System' should be renamed the 'Dhoni-Review System.'
He declared his retirement from Test cricket in December 2014, giving Wriddhiman Saha a chance. Dhoni retired from Test cricket after 90 appearances and a total of 4,876 runs at an average of 38.09.
In the 50-over format, he then handed over the captaincy to Virat Kohli in 2017. India also rose to the top of the Test cricket rankings under Dhoni's leadership.
Under his guidance, his Indian Premier League (IPL) club Chennai Super Kings (CSK) has won the competition three times.
