Virat Kohli will open for RCB in the IPL 2021: Virat Kohli has announced his plans for the Indian Premier League after leading India to a T20 series victory over World No. 1 England (IPL 2021).
Kohli has confirmed that he will open for Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) in the Indian Premier League (IPL).
Kohli smashed 80* off 52 balls to open India's innings in the fifth and final T20 of the series against England, and he shared a 94-run opening stand with Rohit Sharma.
Kohli has stated that he will open for RCB in the IPL and that he will continue to open for India in T20 internationals with Rohit.
“It's real. “I'm going to open in the IPL as well,” Kohli said at the presentation after India won by 36 runs to take the series 3-2.
“Look, I've batted in a variety of positions in the past, but I believe we now have a very good middle order, and in T20 cricket, it's all about your two best players having the most number of balls.
As a result, I'd love to work alongside Rohit at the top. As I correctly said, if we have a partnership and we are both set, you can bet that one of us would do some serious harm. That's just what we're looking for.
When one of us is already in and ready, the other guys feel much more at ease, feeling that they can play more freely.
It bodes well for the team, and I hope we can retain this level of success all the way to the World Cup.”
Kohli's top-order partnership with Rohit Sharma paid off spectacularly for India, with Sharma smashing 64 off 34 and Kohli playing anchor to bat through the innings and finish with 80* off 52 in a gigantic Indian total of 224 for 2.
Kohli hopes to repeat the performance, and he also confirmed that India will likely play a few more T20Is before the World Cup.
“I just found out that after the Test series against England, we may have some more [games before the T20 World Cup],” Kohli said.
“Yeah, we've got it pretty well worked out [in terms of who will make the squad].” We have a lot of confidence in ourselves.
I'm very pleased with how things have turned out. “All we want to do now is keep going forward with more positivity and courage.”
Kohli's opening partner and vice-captain Sharma, on the other hand, opted to take a more realistic approach to the top-order lineup, noting that the T20 World Cup was only a few months away and that things could change.
“The World Cup is quite a long way off. At the post-match press conference, Sharma said, "It's too early to talk about what the batting line-up would look like."
“All we have to do now is analyse and decide what best suits the squad. We needed an extra bowler today, so I think it was a tactical decision.
We tried to leave one batsman out, but it had to be KL, who was incredibly tough. KL, as we all know, has been a key player for us in the limited-overs format, especially in this format.
However, given the team's current form, the management chose to go with the best XI.
However, this does not imply that KL will not be considered in the future. This was just for one particular game.
“As we get closer to the World Cup, things might change. We recognise his talent and recognise his contribution at the top, as well as what he has done for us.
But I'm not going to rule anything out, and I'm not going to suggest this is the favoured batting line-up for the World Cup because it's still early in the tournament.
We have a lot of time, the IPL is in the centre, and I'm hearing there will be a few T20s before the World Cup.”
Kohli has batted at No. 3 the most in 83 T20I innings, except this one (57 times). Kohli opened the batting in the shortest style at the highest level for the eighth time tonight.
It's worth noting that Kohli's T20I opener number isn't even close to the magic he's built at No. 3.
Kohli has 198 runs in seven innings as an opener, with an average and strike rate of 28.28 and 146.66, respectively.
‘I am going to open in the IPL as well,' Virat says.
It's likely that Virat Kohli will open for the Royal Challengers Bangalore in the IPL alongside Devdutt Padikkal. Padikkal had a memorable first season with the RCB, scoring 473 runs in 15 games.
Kohli was effusive in his support for the team during the post-match interview. “For us, it was a complete game.
The opposition was completely outplayed. Despite the dew, we have once again defended the number, as we did last game.
Today was a full-fledged match. I'm also going to play in the IPL. In the past, I've batted in a variety of positions.
However, I believe we now have a strong middle-order. “I'd love to work with Rohit at the top,” Kohli said.
With Aaron Finch's IPL 2021 contract up for grabs, RCB fans will be eager to see the Indian skipper open with Padikkal.
